  1. 0099 - Soil protection action in the framework of 4p1000 initiative and 0100 - Responsible agriculture taking into account the environment (agroecology), social and society issues and economyDemain la Terre - Tomorrow The Earth | I met with  Marc De Nale . "Tomorrow The Earth" is a community of practice for regenerative agriculture. Soil health is at the center. It currently consists of about 450 producers, most of them in France, but they have a growing number of members in Switzerland, North Africa and even Latin America. The main motivation for membership is to learn from each other to make what they do better. Marc de Nall is a member of the bureau of the 4per1000 Initiative, representing producer organisations. I showed him the business model we are currently developing for 4per1000 using the Business Model Canvas method. It is a simple tool to better understand one's own business and stimulates thinking about ways to improve it. Maybe it will also benefit "Tomorrow the Earth". During the conversation, I asked him to mention two topics he would like to discuss further. He raised two questions, "How can we simplify the message about regenerative agriculture to encourage adoption by conventional farmers?" and "Is it really possible to achieve carbon neutrality in the agricultural sector?" At the end, he recommended that I listen to the lecture by Marc-André SELOSSE : "Quelle agriculture pour demain ?". See above. Excellent but in french!

Here is one of my thoughts that I would like to share. At 4:23 Marc-André SELOSSE. At he stresses that it is not the diversity of species that is important but the diversity of functions that matters. It reminds me lot of the WEF (Davos) lecture "Secrets of Economic Growth" of Ricardo Hausmann. I found his theory / model very useful in practice when trying to strengthen agricultural innovation systems. I used it systematically when I was working in Africa. It is the transfer of know-how or skills (functions) to enrich the collective know-how that is required for the development and successful adoption of solutions. It is not the knowledge of a graduate from an agricultural college who is going to work in a village that makes the difference. It are his skills. He can interact in french, he masters the agreed agricultural vocabulary, he knows how to use a smartphone efficiently, and he knows how to network with his area of origin. Knowledge is important but it are his skills that are the most valuable to the village. He is one letter more in their alphabet of skills. This one additional letter exponentially increases the number of words / options / solutions that can be developed and adopted sustainably.

Hi, this is Josephine Chen from HomelandGreen, Hong Kong, China. The motto of HomelandGreen is 'Be just to the earth, for the sake of all beings.' I visited your display at both stands and am very impressed by the work you are doing. In response to your question to Marc, "How can we simplify the message about regenerative agriculture to encourage adoption by conventional farmers?", I wonder if the strategies we use in Hong Kong to help farmers transition to the practice of Regenerative Farming can be of reference to you. Please visit us at Stand 027 to give us comments on the way we promote regenerative farming in Hong Kong and the Zero risk approach we have adopted. At the other stand of ours, Stand 035, we report on the miraculous recovery of the Ulan Buh desert into a zero pollution eco-agricultural green zone practicing regenerative farming. The fact that the size of the Ulan Buh desert is four times that of Belgium gives us hope that even large scale land recovery project using regenerative farming is also possible.

  4. Good evening. I am Dr. Nandini from BAIF Development Research Foundation, India. We are participating in this virtual EU Fair and have shared our work on 'Soil restoration for achieving sustainable livelihoods, climate change adaptation and mitigation' through stand no 37. Please do visit our stand for understanding the work in India.

This is also to share with you all that we have planned a sharing event on 25th May between 14.00 to 15.00 IST (+/- 5.5 UTC). The topic of this sharing event is 'Environmentally sound and climate smart program interventions through BAIF Development Research Foundation', India. It will be based on BAIF, India's efforts on ground to build resilience of vulnerable farming communities against climate change effects by introducing on ground, the multisectorial program interventions for resilient farming system.

So, please participate for enriching knowledge!  See you there!
