titleSummary

Field Observatory and Carbon Action as part of ’Fair of the ’’4 per 1000’’ international Initiative’

We will demonstrate Field Observatory: https://www.fieldobservatory.org/

Background: Field Observatory illustrates the effects of carbon farming on Finnish farms and the development of an international carbon sequestration verification system. The data of the Field Observatory come from different Finnish farms that are involved in the Carbon Action research.

Additional information

1. Partnership

Clients / Target group

The Field Observatory is a living laboratory where data are visible to everyone. With the Field Observatory service, we want to present the current state of science and envision the future possibilities of carbon sequestration. Our research contributes to the utilization of soil carbon sequestration in climate goals of businesses and the public sector. In addition, The Field Observatory shows how practitioners can apply the carbon sequestration study results in practical carbon farming. The information serves and connects farmers, researchers, and all others interested in soil carbon sequestration

Established collaborations and partnerships

The Finnish Meteorological Institute, the Finnish Environment Institute SYKE, Häme University of Applied Sciences HAMK, and the Baltic Sea Action Group BSAG are developing the Field Observatory. The Strategic Research Council, Business Finland, the Academy of Finland's Flagship Program, and the Ministry of Education and Culture fund the work. The Field Observatory service is part of the Carbon Action Platform to improve agriculture’s climate, waters, and biodiversity impacts.

Desired collaborations and partnerships

We are hoping to collaborate with similar living laboratories

4 per 1000

Collaboration, new contacts, co-design and co-creation

2.Solidarity - Twin-Regions

The twin regions concept aims to optimize the use of resources to address the global climate crisis and other pressing issues by promoting international solidarity and massive, empowered, self-reliant and equitable citizen participation. A Twin-Region is a pair of communities that are complementary in terms of green house gas emissions and sequestration potential. They pool their recourses and collaborate in order to become carbon neutral and to solve other pressing environmental and societal issues, such as biodiversity loss and migration. Click here to read a one page outline.

Additional info: INVITATION:

Welcome to the virtual Soil at Risk symposium organised in Finland by Baltic Sea Action Group, Maj and Tor Nessling Foundation and Forum for Environmental Information.

The symposium on 30.6.2021 brings together a wide variety of research and practical information on protecting agricultural soil. The symposium invites researchers, farmers, businesses and decision-makers to answer vital questions together: How do we safeguard the soil for future generations? What kind of cultivation practices for soil regeneration are needed?

Join us for an exciting day on regenerative agriculture, biodiversity, carbon sequestration and foodsecurity!
