DescriptionTechnology cannot bring true happiness to humanity, nor can it solve the pollution and disasters caused by development. The decline and collapse of the Mayan civilization and Easter Island are examples of how overdevelopment led to ecological unsustainability. Only through sustainable management can Earth continue to support human and biological life. According to a United Nations report, by 2030, the solar, wind, and biomass energy industries alone will create 20 million new green jobs. In the United States, one in every four workers will be a green-collar worker. In Taiwan, green-collar employment is expected to exceed one million people. It is predicted that in the future, all forms of work—including food, clothing, housing, transportation, education, and entertainment—will transition into green-collar roles. To cultivate green-collar talent, this symposium has been held annually since 2017 and was upgraded to an international symposium in 2020. It aligns closely with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), aiming to apply green technology to address climate change and promote sustainable development on a global scale. The 9th Sustainable Development & Green Technology International Symposium will be held in 2025 at National Dong Hwa University, with a focus on advancing green-collar and sustainability education. The morning session will begin with a welcome address from the university president, sharing progress related to the SDGs, followed by presentations from international scholars on sustainability indicators. The afternoon will focus on strategies for climate change mitigation and adaptation, with a special emphasis on the theme of net-zero carbon emissions for this year. Simultaneously, academic papers related to green and information technology will be solicited and presented, based on the 17 SDG indicators. In addition, companies involved in sustainable development and green technologies will be invited to showcase their equipment on-site, providing attendees with hands-on learning opportunities and helping achieve the goal of fostering sustainable development and green innovation.
