| Description | The One World, No Hunger initiative of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development has given a central role to soils in fighting hunger. The global programme "Soil Protection and Rehabilitation for Food Security" (ProSoil), implemented by the Deutschen Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, seeks to restore and protect over 706,000 hectares until 2025. A common challenge for sustainable land management (SLM) programmes is, however, the long-term adoption of SLM technologies. When support through programmes ends, farmers often stop applying the promoted technologies. Against this backdrop, GIZ, TMG Research, and local partners developed and piloted social innovations in Kenya, Benin, and Burkina Faso. These addressed issues of land tenure security and farmer-to-farmer knowledge transfer. The innovations were developed in multi-stakeholder settings at the local level. As locally adapted and socially legitimate solutions, they strengthen the enabling environment for farmers' broad-scale and long-term implementation of SLM measures. During this webinar speakers from Benin, Kenya, and Burkina Faso will present how these innovations were developed at the community level and what changes they have brought about. This will be followed by an expert panel that will reflect on the opportunities and challenges of bringing such innovations to scale. |
