February 2021

Dear Mister Secretary of the “4per1000 Initiative”,

Your call for a candidature as Incoming Vice-President has attracted the attention of our organizations and its partners across the world, mainly farmers, scientists, experts from public and private sectors, and civil society representatives.

After discussion, we have decided to increase our contribution in the “4per1000” and support a candidate which we hope will gather commitment of all colleges.

Mrs. Maria (PILU) Giraudo is currently member of the Bureau in the College of Producers.

You will find attached her Curriculum Vitae.

Our reasons for this proposal are developed in this collective letter we have been chosen to send to you.

Summary:

Benefits for “4per1000 Initiative” of getting Maria (PILU) Giraudo as vice-president,

Giraudo is a creator of consensus. She is recognized and followed by many farmers and stakeholders, and will bring her talents and all her networks to cooperate actively in “4per1000”, in the frame of its strategy and participative governance.

She will be collaborative to boost dramatically the current joint dynamic of all stakeholders, scientists, extension services, civil society, NGOs, officials, private sector, by activating participation of leading farmers into participative field projects with tangible results, able to create local dynamic in territories and along the complete bio-food-chain.

Situation and challenges,

“4per1000” has achieved amazing progresses to raise awareness of needs of healthy soils, agroecology principles and regenerative farming to feed current and future generations, mitigate global climate and biodiversity crisis.

It has been successful engaging a lot of scientists, specialists, institutions, civil society, NGOs, around this global project, with a strategic vision and multi-stakeholders action plan.

Online with this action plan, a key need is now to accelerate implementation on the ground by farmers, as well in under resourced than in richer countries.

In the process of creating local dynamics with all stakeholders engaged, farmers are as well the key actors, as often the most difficult to engage into collective projects.

Mobilization of farmers,

To achieve a massive mobilization of farmers, the best actors are the farmers who have already changed their mindset and their practices towards sustainable production systems. Farmers trust in farmers first and sharing experiences and learning from each other is always a successful option.

Mrs. Giraudo has a permanent training for more than 30 years in Aapresid in this area. She has a long successful experience of creating, leading and coaching various organizations of farmers and experts, as well companies as non-profit, and is widely recognized by her peers in all continents. She was also advisor in public sector to government for developing sustainable policies.

Create a facilitating environment through common mobilization of all stakeholders,

Farmers mobilization is key.

Such a broad ambition as changing rapidly farming practices globally needs a broad consensus and mobilization of all stakeholders, as “4per1000” has already begun to launch.

We trust in Mrs. Giraudo to support and contribute to a strong consensus and mobilization. She shares values of open mind, welcomes everyone, practices inclusiveness, with diplomatic and strategic views. She creates facilitating working environments and processes in which everyone finds a place and has pleasure to contribute.

Such a community is so strong that it is able to overcome any kind of challenge. This is what we need to meet the challenges of present and future global crisis. We quote often one of her favorite words: “todos juntos” = “all together”.

We would appreciate your kind attention to our candidate.

Thanks for your attention.
