Re : The Nomination of Ercilia Sahores as a candidate for the position of Incoming Vice-President of the Consortium of Members of the “4 per 1000” Initiative

Regeneration International would like to nominate Ercilia Sahores as a candidate for the position of Incoming Vice-President of the Consortium of Members of the “4 per 1000” Initiative. Ercilia has been actively involved in the “4 per 1000” Initiative and has deep knowledge and understanding of its operations, processes and goals.

She is the Latin American Director for Regeneration International with responsibilities in Outreach and Communications and Best Practices Identification. She is also Regeneration International’s Commission Delegate at UNFCCC Convention on Land Certification and Biodiversity Convention.

Her other responsibilities include her role with Vía Orgánica, in Mexico, where she liaises between rural communities and the municipality for the development of regenerative projects in the municipal area.

Regeneration International (RI) has played a prominent role in supporting and promoting the 4 per 1000 Initiative from the beginning. André Leu, RI’s international director, was one of the original signatories on the founding of the 4 per 1000 Initiative, on Dec 1, 2015 in Paris as the President of IFOAM Organics International and also, at the time, representing RI as a founding steering committee member.

RI was amongst the first group of NGOs to signed on to the Initiative. Ercilia has been actively involved in RI’s participation in the 4 per 1000 Initiative as a member of the Initiative’s governing consortium which oversees goal-setting, project evaluation and monitoring, funding and other governing matters, and she serves on the task force for the Initiative’s Science and Technical Committee. RI staff including Ercilia participated in the initial 4 per 1000 organizing meeting in Marrakesh in November 2016, and in the first official consortium meeting in Montpelier, France, in 2017. We have advised the Initiative staff on communications matters, and on occasion provided translation services as well as promotional videos.

RI has hosted 4 per 1000 teach-ins in Washington, D.C., and co-organized events to promote the Initiative in Mexico City and in Montreal, Canada, at the Living Soils Symposium.  RI co-organized, with the 4 per 1000 Initiative event with NEPAD and others in South Africa, in 2018. Ercilia was actively involved in all of these events.

RI asks that all our partners and affiliates sign on to the 4 per 1000 Initiative. We also encourage and invite all members of local, state, national and international Regeneration Alliances also sign on, consequently many organizations have signed onto the 4 per 1000 Initiative because of this.

We believe that Ercilia Sahores brings a strong skills set, experience and a personal commitment to the 4 per 1000 Initiative. She is based in Latin America, however as Regeneration International is a global network with 354 partner organizations in 69 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America, Oceania, North America and Europe, Ercilia can bring a truly international perspective to the initiative.

Yours Faithfully,

André Leu, International Director, 25-02-2021
