Dear colleagues and partners working in the field of food and nutrition security and sustainable agriculture - FNSSA,

The LEAP4FNSSA project sets out to launch an AU-EU bicontinental platform to support effective research and innovation partnership and collaboration on FNSSA. The proposed pillars of this collaboration in FNSSA is based on research and innovation needs and demands at a regional level, communication channels/mechanisms that best integrate relevant actors, as well as a data and knowledge management framework that supports utilization of  research for practical purposes.

The LEAP4FNSSA project is building FNSSA research and innovation alliances at the sub- regional level, starting with the North and West Africa sub-regions. The North and West Africa Alliances are beginning to inform the shaping of the alliances that will trigger effective research and innovation  collaboration between the African union and the European Union.

As very important stakeholders, we are keen at this stage, involving you to contribute your valuable knowledge and experience in the evaluation of the sub regional research and innovation needs and agendas through the attached survey. The outputs of this survey will be shared at a virtual workshop in February 2022. Your contributions will form a basis for respective sub-region agenda to provide a pragmatic foundation for future research and innovation collaboration.

This survey explores thoughts on the most relevant sub-regional level problems/challenges, the related underlying causes, potential research topics and identification of effective solutions. An important principle is to  build on existing structures, so the survey also explores your thoughts on relevant existing roadmaps, available communication mechanisms, dialogues and platforms.

We are pleased to welcome you to be part of this process by kindly responding to this survey and sharing the link of this survey to your network members to participate.

Thank you for your valuable contribution.

With kind regards,

Irene Annor-Frempong - Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa

Henning Knipschild - Federal Office for Agriculture and Food (BLE) - Germany
