Question | Problem 1- Difficult data accessibility |
---|---|
Organization (full name) | Land and Health Association |
Organization acronym | LHA |
Type of organization | NGO / CSO |
Country | Benin |
Problem name | Difficult data accessibility |
Problem description | For the definition of science-based governance, policymakers need access to relevant data and research results. At the moment, no platform or mechanism at the national level exists to transfer knowledge at the level of universities, NGOs, technical and financial partners to political decision-makers to better develop a general knowledge of the state of soils, technologies against land degradation, etc. This problem means that national indicators are not well monitored and Benin will have difficulty reporting on land degradation neutrality and on SDG target 15.3 in 2030. |
Problem Consequences | Without real data and knowledge of the state of the soil in Benin, initiatives put in place by stakeholders to fight against land degradation, knowledge of the failures and successes in terms of land and ecosystem restoration, real progress in governance, and the fight against land degradation, food insecurity cannot be achieved in Benin. Likewise, the indicators defined in 2017 in the National Action Plan for Sustainable Land Management will not be well followed and there is a huge risk that the reports that will be provided in 2030 will have a lot of error. |

Responsible group 1 | Scientist |
Impact of group 1 | Scientists are the keepers of knowledge and innovation. Knowledge is generated and kept at the university level. If some of this knowledge can be formulated into a clear message to policymakers, much of government decisions will be relevant. |
Change group 1 | We can modify the behavior of scientists by raising awareness and creating within universities, communication units that can formulate policy briefs for any scientific result that appears to be relevant. |
