The Year 2026 has been declared the Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists(IYRP)by the United Nations. In
preparation for this a series of consultationswith pastoralist youth across the worldwill take place over
the next three years to develop a vision for pastoralism in the face of climate change. A sustainable yet
forward-lookingpastoralismcan bring adaptation, mitigation and economic growth benefits.Weinvite
you to come together with other pastoralist youth to start developing that vision!


The first in a series ofthese visioningconsultations will be held atLukenyaUniversity, Makueni Kenya
from 27-29 September 2022.Participants willbethose working and living in pastoral areasin Kenya,
Tanzania and Ethiopia.Participants are expected to fully participate for the three days,sharing
experiences, knowledge and skills, whilst also being open to learn from othersincluding
practical
examples in the field to equip participants withclimate changemitigation strategies and adaptation
options.
It will also be a space to talk about challenges and opportunities of pastoralism among youth,
building up rapport and critical mass, with opportunity to join
CSAYN(Climate Smart Agriculture Youth
Network)
and the IYRP international support groupafter the event.


This consultation will also be an opportunity to develop a statement on the future of pastoralism in face
of climate changethatwill be presented at an official side eventat theUN Framework Convention on
Climate Change
COP27 to be held inEgypt,Sharm El-Sheikh, 7-18 November 2022.


This series of consultations is being organised byILRI, CSAYN, andPROCASURas a contribution to the One
CGIAR initiative on
Livestock, Climate and System Resilience(LCSR).Full costs of the event andparticipants
attending including transport,accommodation (camping or in university hostel), three meals per day and
travel insurancewill be covered by ILRI through CSAYN.

Restrictions

Criteria for applicants include:
1.
Be between 18-35 years oldfroma pastoral society and/or becloselyworking with pastoralistsin Ethiopia, Kenya or Tanzania.
2.
Be willing to represent pastoralist youth in national and global forums, withsome leadership experiencepreferred.
3.
Be willing to share experiences, skills,knowledge withfellowparticipantsandalso being open to learn.
4.
Have a good command of English
5.
Have a valid passportin hand (given short time to the consultationin September).

Female youth are particularly encouraged to apply. Consultations in other regions of the world will follow.
