Introduction
Since June this year 4p1000 has set its Strategic Plan.
Now that the strategic plan is in place, we must work on its implementation as quickly as possible. And we want YOU to be part of the implementation! We all follow the same goals: our mission is to have worldwide healthy and carbon-rich soils to combat climate change and end hunger. Only with your knowledge and support, we will be able to reach these goals.
The strategic plan comprises 24 objectives with specific targets for 2030 and 2050. We intend to create 24 taskforces, one for each objective.
Therefore we'd like to ask you to join the taskforces that are of special interest to you and your organisation. Joining a taskforce will allow you to extend your professional network, to learn, to improve visibility of your contribution and to benefit from working together in an international team. Exchange and collaboration is facilitated by our cutting edge electronic platform that taskforce member may also use for decentralized development of their related actions and projects.

The international “4 per 1000” Initiative: Soils for Food Security and Climate, invites all stakeholders worldwide to implement practical actions to achieve soil carbon storage through agriculture and forestry, and to share agro-ecological practices (conservation agriculture, agro-forestry, regenerative agriculture, landscape management, etc.) to combat climate change and end hunger, within 2050. The mission of the “4 per 1000” Initiative for 2030 is to provide a supportive framework and action plan on soil health and soil carbon, through an enhanced collaboration between stakeholders of the "Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use (AFOLU)" sector, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). Launched by France in 2015 during the UNFCCC COP 21, the “4 per 1000” Initiative is gathering almost 500 partners and members (July, 2020) and has just released its Strategic Plan in June 2020 [2020-2050]. |
Purpose of Taskforces
The primary objective of the Task Forces is to develop a catalog of coordinated actions and projects that represent compelling investment opportunities, which will be brought to the attention of decision-makers and funders in the public and private sectors through the "4 per 1000" initiative.
The general purpose of the taskforces is to provide a space where professionals can meet, exchange and collaborate on issues regarding the objective.
The specific purpose of each taskforce is a) to elaborate implementation strategies that allow reaching the targets for 2030 and 2050, as defined in the strategic plan, b) to map relevant on-going actions and project and c) to outline action and project plans for future activities for reaching the targets. The latter are in fact investment opportunities.
Taskforces are also a consultative and advisory body that body expected to provide advice to third parties upon request.
How to join a task force
Please brows through the table below and select up to three objectives to which you can provide expertise and that are of particular interest to you and your organisation. To join a specific taskforce you need to click on the title in the column to the left (e.g.: A1 - Nationally Determined Contributions) in order to reach the corresponding registration form. You may join as task taskforce leader, as a regional representative or simply as a member. Please have a look at the role and decide which role fits you best in each of the taskforces that you would like to join.
Note, only persons that belong to an organisation that is a member or partner of the "4 per 1000" Initiative are may become 4 taskforce leaders or regional taskforce representatives. Persons that do not belong to an member or partner organisation may join as fried of "4 per 1000".

The "4 per 1000" Executive Secretariat will facilitate a consultative process for the final selection of a suitable person and the establishment of the Task Force. In addition to organisational issues, a balanced representation of the different stakeholders will be ensured.

A - INCEPTION & CONCEPTUALIZATION
Facilitate the emergence and ensure the feasibility of methodologies, tools and recommendations that foster stakeholders' ability to implement the Initiative on the ground
Objective
Ensure that the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) of all UNFCCC country Parties contain references to soil health and Soil Organic Carbon (SOC), and that they are taken into account in their sustainable agriculture development programs.
In 2019, out of 196 countries' NDCs, only 13 refer to SOC in relation to agricultural mitigation targets or adaptation actions, and 20 refer to peatlands or wetlands in relation to such targets. A further 3 NDCs refer to soil carbon without clear linkages to targets.
