The first part of this session will explore the important role that biochar can play in mitigating climate change. The benefits and challenges associated with its use will be discussed, including its impact on soil fertility and the environment. It will also address the regulatory frameworks surrounding biochar production, including relevant standards and opportunities for circular economy approaches.

The second part will examine how circular economy principles can transform agriculture, promoting the sustainable use of resources, minimising waste, and encouraging eco-friendly farming practices. Strategies such as composting organic waste, recycling nutrients, reducing reliance on synthetic inputs, and integrating agroecological methods to improve soil health and biodiversity will be discussed.

By adopting these practices, farmers can achieve greater resource efficiency, reduce their environmental impact, and foster resilient agricultural systems that contribute to long-term sustainability.
