The Climate - Soil Community of Practice

This Climate-Soil Community of Practice (CoP) has jointly been launched by the “4 per 1000” Initiative on soils for food security and climate and the GIZ Sector Project Soil Protection, Combating Desertification, Sustainable Land Management (BMZ) in 2020.

The core concern of this Climate-Soil Community of Practice is to raise the awareness of the climate change mitigation and adaptation potential of sustainable land management and SOC enriching practices and identify concrete pathways for improvement and implementation. Its aim is to disseminate information on successful projects in the area of SLM and carbon sequestration, highlight good practices for overcoming adoption barriers and strengthen the case for sustainable land management as a key to effective climate action.

In addition, we advocate for increased and tangible consideration of SOC in relevant interventions and policy processes, such as the National Determined Contributions (NDCs).

The Climate-Soil Community of Practice (CoP) provides a platform for collaboration and peer-learning amongst its members and offers an open space for discussion and creative thinking.

Event - Coming mid-April:

Regreening the Sahel – Restoring land and livelihoods

Land degradation is a serious threat in Africa, particularly in the Sahel where the combination of climate change, increased population, loss of tree and vegetative cover, and intensified land use is undermining the natural resource base on which rural communities depend. Solutions for a restoration of the dry lands are key to reverse land degradation and biodiversity loss and address the effects of climate change. It is about regaining lost ecological functions by enabling communities to improve the productivity, resilience and sustainability of their livelihoods by adapting some combination and sequence of innovative regreening practices that regenerates the land and restore the landscapes.

In this session of the Community of Practice we invited Groundswell International and BOTH Ends (tbc) to report about their work in the Sahel. They will explain their methods and practices on the lands and in the communities, talk about successes and challenges. There will be space for questions, answers and discussions.

  2. Thanks very much for linking us will this wonderful capacity building opportunity. knowledge is the powerful tool for effective response in Climate change. Its my sincere hope that you will continue building our capacity to effectively work will relevant and innovative actions.

Ainsi depuis des années nous avons cherché un bailleur qui soutient notre projet, mais pas encore trouver. Cette foi ci, j'espère grâce à vous  que notre espoir sera atteint. Je vous remercie.
